History Edit

Hardee's #1501376 (1977-2019) Edit

Hardee's opened at the site in 1977,[1] with a remodel occuring around 2013.[2] The restaurant closed permanently on December 18, 2019 alongside 5 other locations in the central Alabama area.[3]

Kemp's Kitchen (2020-2021) Edit

In August of 2020, Trussville-based casual restaurant Kemp's Kitchen opened at the old Hardee's building, in turn moving from their former location at 1423 Gadsden Highway inside Trussville Plaza.[4]

On November 29, 2021 around 10:30pm, the building caught on fire and was later deemed a total loss. According to Trussville Fire Chief Tim Shotts, the fire was caused by a faulty charger wire going to an electronic device. As a result of the fire, owner Brian Kemp announced that all Trussville employees would move to the Gardendale location at 838 Odum Road.[5] As of February 14, 2022, Kemp's is currently in progress of opening a new location in the Trussville area, this time at the old Mike and Mike's Complete Auto Care location on 229 Main Street.[6]
