For its entire length in the city of Lincoln Park, Fort Street carries M-85.

History[edit | edit source]

A Detroit Edison aerial image from 1997 shows the original sharp angle of Fort Street's curve at Champaign Road.[1] Farmer Jack #501 is visible on the northwest corner (upper left).

In 2005, starting on July 15 of that year, as part of a repaving project along Fort Street between Goddard Road and Schaefer Highway, the curve at Champaign Road was completely rebuilt. The previous curve was highly sharp and thus jeopardized safety, but the new curve provided a smoother flow.[2]
