The Racine Journal Times is a daily newspaper based in Racine, Wisconsin, owned by Lee Enterprises. The paper was created by the merger of the Journal Printing Company, which published the Racine Journal-News, and the Call Publishing Company, which published the Racine Times-Call. The Journal Times was first printed on Sunday, June 26, 1932.[1] For decades, the newspaper also operated the WRJN radio station. Lee Enterprises purchased the paper in 1968.[2]
Historically, the Journal-Times was an afternoon paper, although the paper's Sunday Bulletin had been published in the morning since before the 1932 merger. Beginning on September 10, 1972, the paper was substantially redesigned: the "Sunday Bulletin" nameplate was eliminated in favor of another edition of the Journal Times, the hyphen was removed from the paper's name, and a distinctive logo known as "the flag" was introduced.[3] On September 25, 1977, the newspaper converted to electronic copy processing and the short-lived "flag" logo was discontinued.[4] The Saturday edition of the paper moved to mornings on September 16, 1978, and was briefly known as "the Journal Times Saturday Wake Up".[5] The Journal Times fully converted to a morning publication on Monday, June 22, 1987.[6]
