Washington Square is a retail and office building located at 5200 Washington Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin. It is primarily occupied by Society's Assets, a non-profit organization.

History[edit | edit source]

The Milton F. LaPour Land Company began construction on Washington Square in August 1967,[1] and received a permit to construct a $228,000 store and office building on the site in October.[2] The Wisconsin Telephone Company planned to begin using second-floor office space in the complex in February 1968.[1] The Captain's Chair, a barbershop, was one of the first retail businesses to open in the new development, on April 1, 1968.[3] In May, a cocktail lounge was planned to open in the complex, applying for a liquor license despite the area's historic opposition to the sale of alcohol.[4]
