1297 Fort Street (Wyandotte, Michigan)

1297 Fort Street is a vacant restaurant building on Fort Street in Wyandotte, Michigan. The building was originally built in 1977 for a Taco Bell franchise, and after a mid-2000s stint as Quiznos, the building housed Fattoush Express Cafe & Grill in the late 2010s and early 2020s.

History

Taco Bell #1454 (1977–2002)

Taco Bell opened store #1454 at 1297 Fort Street in 1977. In June 1978, a Lincoln Park resident injured her hand during her employment at the restaurant, and hospital charges that were supposed to be covered by the restaurant's insurance company went uncovered until she contacted the Detroit Free Press Action Line in December, and even the night manager had neglected to handle the matter.

At one point, store #1454 was cited as the highest-grossing Taco Bell restaurant in the state of Michigan. A drive-through window was installed in the mid-1980s, which continued to be utilized by the building's subsequent tenants.

Store #1454 later closed in 2002, relocating across Fort Street to a new building at 12660 Fort Street in Southgate, a combination building which housed store #21292 and a Pizza Hut Express.

Quiznos #4685 (2003–2007)

Taco Bell sold the property on July 7, 2003 to Southgate resident Ramchandra L. Patel, who opened a Quiznos submarine sandwich franchise, store #4685, at 1297 Fort Street in early 2004, through his company, RMK Enterprises, Ltd. The location was not successful for Quiznos, and the restaurant closed on December 11, 2007.

Fattoush Express Cafe & Grill (2016–2021)

Fattoush Express Cafe & Grill, which had just been incorporated in Taylor, purchased the property on June 29, 2016, and proceeded to remodel the building to house a Mediterranean restaurant of the same name, which opened on May 7, 2017. The building was reported as listed for sale in August 2021, and Fattoush Express Cafe & Grill's phone lines were disconnected as well around the same time, both indicating that the restaurant had closed.
