1653-1655 North Main Street is a commercial building on North Main Street in Racine, Wisconsin, near High Street. The building has been owned by Lee Bolton and his family since 1959.[1]

History

In 1925, the building was occupied by the Schroeder Brothers garage and the Sidney E. Nelson automobile insurance agency.[2]

Porcaro's/Catrine's Barber Shop

Frank Porcaro became a barber around 1923 and opened his own shop in 1926.[3] In 1931, Porcaro's shop was located nearby at 405 High Street,[4] but by 1935 it had moved into 1655 North Main Street, next to the Schroeder garage.[5]

Frank Catrine, who started working at Porcaro's shop at age 19 in April 1957, became a partner in the shop around 1967. Porcaro died on April 4, 1973,[3] and Catrine became the sole owner of the business.[6] Catrine and his employees have been members of the International Barbers Union This is a link to a Wikipedia article.[7]

On October 30, 1992, during a campaign stop in Racine, President George H.W. Bush This is a link to a Wikipedia article's press secretary and doctor had their hair cut at Catrine's.[8]
