4604 Highway 280 is a building located on Highway 280 in Birmingham, Alabama (specifically, the Cahaba River Road outlot). The 14,100 square-foot building was built in 2002 for a Just for Feet store, and would house a Golfsmith store and later its current tenant, Discount Tire.

It is an outparcel to the River Ridge shopping center.

History

Just for Feet (2002-2004)[1]

4604 Highway 280 was first built in 2002 for a Just for Feet store which opened on March 23, the chain's first new Alabama location since being bought out by Footstar Inc.; the store's grand opening featured appearances from then-NBA player Grant Hill, the Harlem Globetrotters, and former University of Alabama Coach Gene Stallings.[2] It closed in 2004 along with the rest of the chain.

Golfsmith (2006-2016)[3]

In June 2006, Golfsmith opened a store in the old Just for Feet building after signing a long-term lease in February; this was Golfsmith's first store in Alabama.[4] It closed in 2016 amid Golfsmith's Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and subsequent purchase by Dick's Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.[5]

On September 12, 2018, Halle Properties LLC sold the building from GAC Footstore LLC for $2.2 million.[6]

Discount Tire (2020-)[7]

The old Golfsmith building would be converted into a Discount Tire store, which opened in March of 2020; it was their first store in the Birmingham area.[8]
