Kmart #4973 was a Super Kmart Center discount department store located at 8400 Westheimer Road in Houston, Texas.[1] The store opened on June 26, 1995 replacing Kmart 4017, Kmart 4236, and Kmart 3153, with a formal grand opening ceremony on June 29.[2] In 2002, the store's parking lot would be the site of a controversial drag racing raid where hundreds of innocent people were arrested by Houston police, despite the fact that no racing was taking place.[3] The store closed on April 13, 2003,[4] and was demolished for The Home Depot 6558.
