As of January 30, 2021, there are 99 Target discount department stores in Illinois.[1] The first Target store in the state opened in 1972.

Store history[edit | edit source]

Note that between 1979 and 1988 (except for 1985), the figure for Illinois in the annual report is incorrect because the stores in Alton and Fairview Heights, Illinois are apparently counted as being in Missouri, presumably because they are in the St. Louis metropolitan area. The annual reports for these years therefore list two fewer stores in Illinois and two more stores in Missouri than there actually were, an error which has been corrected in the table below.[2][3][4]
