Woolco #6011 was a Woolco discount department store located at Parkdale Plaza, 4041 South Staples Street in Corpus Christi, Texas.[1] The store opened on March 11, 1964 as the first Woolco in Texas.[2] In August 1970, the building was severely damaged by Hurricane Celia This is a link to a Wikipedia article, with a portion of the roof caving in. Woolco did not close its store, operating out of a series of tents in the parking lot until the building was declared safe to move back into. One-third of the store building was made unusable by the hurricane damage. The store continued to operate during the process of repairing the building, which began in January 1971.[3] The store held a grand reopening on June 16, 1971, after the repairs were completed.[4] The store closed on January 15, 1983.[5]
