Ames Department Store #1184 was an Ames discount department store located at 3200 South Arlington Road in Akron, Ohio.[1]

The store was built as an Akron based Clarkins discount store in 1966.

Clarkins went out of business in 1981 and then Gold Circle took over the building a year later.

Gold Circle went out of business in 1988 and then Hills took over as they purchased the other former Gold Circle locations in the area.

Hills became Ames in 1999 but the company immediately hit financial issues and the store was among the 32 stores Ames decided to close in 2000.

After Ames closed, the building sat vacant for a brief while before it became 5th Avenue Flea Market.

The building was an eyesore as it fell into disrepair during the flea market's tenure.

Eventually it was purchased by a development company who tore down a huge portion of the building, leaving only the back wall.

What was left was remodeled and divided into smaller stores as part of Arlington Ridge Marketplace.

Target#2346 was built as the anchor on the opposite side and opened on October 14, 2007.
