Kmart #4071 was a Kmart discount department store located at 1140 Roswell Road Southeast in Marietta, Georgia.[1] Opening on March 16, 1964 in former Thrift City store buildings, the location and its twin, Kmart #4070 in Atlanta, were the 56th and 57th stores in the Kmart chain and the first two in the Atlanta area.[2] The attached food store opened ahead of time on January 1, 1964, the day after Thrift City's lease expired.[3] The store closed on January 4, 2009,[4] and the building has since been primarily occupied by a Sears Outlet store (now American Freight).
In June 1992, in a protest against Kmart's decision not to sell the band's music, Georgia-based metal band Jackyl held an impromptu concert on a flatbed truck in the store's parking lot, which they called "Jackyl Awareness Day".[5] Footage of the performance was used as the official music video for their song "I Stand Alone."[6]
