The store opened on March 3, 1976, as the 54th Kmart in Texas, and was one of two stores to open that day for a total of 938 Kmart's overall.[1] In 1992, the store would be expanded from a Group 7 mini Kmart and remodeled, with a grand re-opening ceremony on November 6 of that year.[2] In 1999, the store would be converted to Big Kmart, with a grand re-opening ceremony on August 13 of that year.[3] The store ultimately closed on March 20, 2016.[4][5]
