The store opened on October 19, 1978 as one of the first six Kmart's in the San Antonio area, one of 13 stores to open that day for a total of 1,472 Kmart's overall, and tied with seven other Texas stores for the 80th Kmart in Texas.[1] The store would later be converted to Big Kmart before ultimately closing on April 13, 2003.[2] The building was torn down for the San Antonio Public Safety Headquarters.[3]
