Kroger #695, also known as Kroger Atlanta, Ponce Kroger, Beltline Kroger, Scary Kroger, or Murder Kroger, is a Kroger supermarket located at 725 Ponce de Leon Avenue Northeast in Atlanta, Georgia.[1] It has gained the local nickname "Murder Kroger" for the occasional murders that take place at or near the store. Kroger's attempt to rebrand the location as "Beltline Kroger" in 2014 proved unsuccessful. The store was closed and demolished in October 2016, and reopened in 2019 in the same location. This same location has been nicknamed "Murder Kroger" as well.

History[edit | edit source]

The store opened sometime in 1986.[2][3] The business offered drivers license renewal services from the 1990s[4] until at least 2002.[5] The store was renovated in 2000.[6] Additional renovations were completed in November 2014, with the store being rebranded to "Beltline Kroger".[7]

Incidents[edit | edit source]

  • Cynthia Prioleau, a 25-year-old woman, was shot and killed in the store's parking lot in 1991. Because of the incident, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution dubbed the store "Scary Kroger."[8] As of 2015, the murder remained unsolved.[9]
  • A man robbed the Bank of America inside the store in October 1999.[10]
  • In August 2002, a woman found a dead man inside a car in the store's parking lot.[11]
