The restaurant held its grand opening on July 22, 1955,[3] making it the second McDonald's restaurant franchised under Ray Kroc, after McDonald's #32 in Des Plaines, Illinois.[4] It was originally franchised by Lawrence Chudacoff and Ida Silberstein,[5] and managed by Art Bender, who had been a McDonald's employee since the first location opened in December 1948, and who sold the chain's first hamburger. In 1957, Bender became the owner of the franchise.[6]
