John F. Rogan opened the first Rogan's Shoes store at 3321 Rapids Drive on October 1, 1972.[2] Rogan already operated Pic Shoes in Burlington and Port Shoes in Port Washington, but the Racine location was the first to use the "Rogan's Shoes" name.[3][4] The store was immediately popular, and the owners quickly recognized the need for more space.[2] An addition to the building was built the following summer, expanding the store from 3,100 square feet (290 m2) to 6,700 square feet (620 m2).[5]
The store moved to 3520 Rapids Drive, a building previously occupied by a tavern named Oz, in October 1986.[6][7]
