Kmart #4389 was a Kmart discount department store located at Kmart Plaza, 1801 South 10th Street in McAllen, Texas. The store opened on November 22, 1971 as the first Kmart in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area, one of seven stores to open that day for a total of 484 Kmart’s overall, and tied with Kmart 4466 for the 41st Kmart in Texas.[1] In 1991, the store would be expanded from a pre-1972 full-size model Kmart and remodeled, with a grand re-opening ceremony on November 14.[2] In 1999, the store would be converted to Big Kmart. The store ultimately closed on April 11, 2020. It was the last Kmart in Texas to close.[3]
