Kmart #4389 was a Kmart discount department store located at Kmart Plaza, 1801 South 10th Street in McAllen, Texas.[1] The store opened on November 22, 1971 as the first Kmart in the Lower Rio Grande Valley area, the 41st Kmart in Texas,[2] and one of four stores to open that day for a total of 483 Kmarts overall. In 1991, the store would be expanded from a pre-1972 full-size model Kmart and remodeled, with a grand re-opening ceremony on November 14.[3] In 1999, the store would be converted to Big Kmart. The store ultimately closed on April 11, 2020, making it the last Kmart in Texas to close.[4][5]
